The fae were walking past my window,
On this dark autumn night.
They made me forget the hard times past,
And return, they just might...

Life as a mother of two

I finally posted my birth story. I've been working on it for weeks, but put the polishing touches on tonight.

I am beginning to adapt to being a mama again. It is an adjustment, although not as big as after the first baby. Rhiannon is a great big sister, she really loves the baby. She is having some behavioral issues with us, though. She's testing her boundaries again, so we have to start cracking down on her again. I was trying to ease up a bit, since I know this is hard for her, but she was getting out of hand. So, I guess I don't get to be nice mama. But it's been working, and she's been a sweetheart the last two days.

Little Rayn is doing well too. She was 10lb 4oz at her checkup on Friday - I am still taking her to my midwife for checkups, so the last one is at 6 weeks. She said I am pretty much all healed up, so Bean and I went into the hot tub tonight. It was chilly outside, so the steam was rising up off the water, and it was beautiful with our landscaping lights and the blue light from the tub. It was like we were in a magical pool under the stars.
We are dealing with a touch of colic, which hasn't been pleasant. Rayn is difficult to soothe, unless she has a boob in her face. Even then, she still scrunches up and screams sometimes, so my heart just breaks for her. We've been giving her Gripe Water, which has been a lifesaver. I'm also giving her Hyland's Colic Tablets, but we're not sure if they're working as well yet. It's a process. A friend recommended trying fennell tea, and another recommended peppermint tea - I guess they are both supposed to aid digestion, although fennell is in the Gripe Water. So I'm not out of options yet. She's napping in the sling right now, which is why I'm able to get on the computer for a bit.
I had to get out the 3-6mo clothes already this weekend. The girl is pretty much out of anything that's a one-piece. Those newborn clothes are so cute, too! I discovered Rhiannon had lots of cute little outfits in the next size, though, which made me happy.

Plus, I am relieved to be getting some help with the candles. Barb's teenage daughter is coming over this week for a couple hours to help me package candles, which will be a huge help. I'm concentrating on getting the candles made right now, and I plan to have a regular helper come over like 1-2x a week, at least through the holiday season. So I am starting to relax a little bit. As long as I can keep the stores stocked I will be happy.

Off to take care of the kids! I'm going to watch Commander in Chief tonight - I love that show. Geena Davis' character kicks butt.

ps - I'm considering calling the baby Rayn most of the time instead of Aeryn, so I'm trying it out. :)
